Season’s greetings fellow yogis!
The holidays are a time of joy and cheer; they often serve as a reminder of all that we have to be grateful for in our lives. The holidays can also be a time of stress, as we tend to load our plates with shopping, baking, card making, holiday parties and family gatherings. I wanted to share a little tip that helps me get through this “merry” insane time of year – perhaps it can help you too!
Know your stressors and set an intention to help you power through in peace. I know that I get agitated around crowds – you will NEVER find me at a Black Friday sale! If I must hit the stores for some holiday shopping, I set an intention – just like I would before beginning my yoga session – to bring calmness in challenging moments.
For those of you who may not be familiar with setting an intention, I’ll explain what it is in a nutshell. An intention is like making a promise to yourself of what you intend to do, be or say. It’s a way to put positive thinking, energy and ambition into action. When on your mat, it can help you push through a mental barrier, or find comfort in discomfort.
A few examples of my holiday shopping intentions are: be joyous, be humble or make a stranger smile. I also keep in mind the simple yet powerful Golden Rule: do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
If you should find agitation or stress trying to creep in, go back to your intention, take a deep breath and smile. Just remember how good it feels to honor your intention on the mat, and extend that feeling into your daily interactions. Share the joy!
Peace. Love. Namaste.
